How to use The Teaching Planner?

In the following table, blue fonts indicate site tabs (pages) and boxes whereas bold fonts indicate tables, icons and links (features) on the pages.

The "cell"  refers to a combination of day and class on the My Weekly Planner table of the My Planner page.  For example: AP Chemistry class on 3/15/12.

What do you want to do? Why? / How?

1.Enter the site

  • Sign up or
  • Log In / Account
  • During Sign Up you will enter your data, log in, password, set up your classes, enter your students' names, and set up your free trial, renew/edit your membership, information, etc.
  • When you Log In, you will be able to edit your info by clicking the Account link.

2. Save , share, and request human translations for resources on the

  • Math tab
  • Science
  • Search box

  • On the Math or Science tabs, click on the domain, strand, and standards you want
  • Resources will be shown: save, share, or request a human translation for them

  • You can also search for resources on the Search box at the top right corner of our site.
    Search results will first show TP resources
    If you want to see more resources, on the same search results page, you can do a Google search (restricted to our 100+ selected high quality education sites)

3. The My Planner tab is where you do your planning. 

The Planner has three tables:

  • My Strands
  • My Saved Resources
  • My Weekly Planner

  • The tree-like My Strands table has the domains, core ideas, and strands for which you saved resources for (it does not list the actual saved resources).
    The (+) signs open the domains and core ideas to see the strands for which you saved resources

  • Click on a strand from the My Strands table will produce the My Saved Resources table.  This table contains the resources you had saved.
    CAUTION : if you delete resources from these table, the resources will also be deleted from your Weekly Planner below.

  • The Weekly Planner is where you actually do your planning by dragging and dropping the resources from the My Saved Resources table (see instruction #5).

4. The Other Favorite Links link at the bottom of the My Strands table contains resources that you either:

  • Entered manually
  • Saved from your onsite Google-type search (see instruction #2).

  • To enter resources manually, click on the Other Favorite Links link at the bottom of the My Strands table.
    If you don't yet have any saved resource in the Other Favorite Links link, a dialogue box will ask you for the title, url, topic, and description of the resources.
    If you already have saved resources in this link, the Other Favorite Links table will list them. At the top right corner of this table, you can Enter Another Resource.
    You cannot share or request translations for resources entered as My Resources.
  • If you had saved resources via an onsite Google-type search (see instruction #2), those resources will be listed in the My Saved Resources table

5.The Weekly Planner

shows the days/classes combinations called cells.

For planning, resources will be assigned to cells.  You can also:

  • Add Notes to the cell
  • Create, save and print Lesson Plans for a single class/day
  • Print the whole Weekly Plan for all the classes

  • Click a resource from the My Saved Resources table to drag and drop it in a cell.
  • You can assign many resources to the same cell.  The cell will automatically add the name of the resources' strands
  • To delete the assignment of a resource to a cell, drag the resource to the trash can icon . This won't delete the resource from the My Saved Resources table.
  • To see previous or following weeks on the Weekly Planner use icons  or
  • Each cell has a Notes link.  Clicking on it will produce a window to type a note, for example: "Remind students to bring their lab journals"
  • Each cell also has a Lesson Plan link.  Clicking on it will produce a lesson plan template for that single class/day that includes: Class, Period, Date, Strand, Objectives, Pre-requisite Knowledge, Common Students' Ideas, Materials, Preparation, Procedure, Assessment, Adaptations, Extension, and Notes.
    Fill out this Lesson Plan template and Save it.
    You can later Edit the lesson plan again, Delete it, print , or just Close it (x)
  • To print the whole Weekly Plan for all your classes, click on the printer icon   at the top of the My Weekly Planner table.
    It will produce a pdf file in a separate tab that you can print and then close.
    NOTE: to print a Weekly Plan for just one class, see instruction #6.

6. The row header

is the first cell of each row of My Weekly Planner.  It contains the:

  • Name of the class
  • Print icon for a class
  • Hide/Show links
  • Grades links

  • To print the Weekly Plan for one class, click on the printer icon   at the top right corner of row header.  This will produce a pdf file in a separate tab that you can print and then close.
  • By default, My Weekly Planner shows all your classes. You can hide some classes by clicking on the Hide link on top left corner of the row header.  When hidden, the link switches to Show
  • To enter grades, click of the Grades link below the class name of the row header.  This will produce the My Weekly Grades table where you can enter, edit or see students' grades for each given cell. In this manner, the grades are associated to your planning.
    If you click the printer icon  here, the printable pdf will contain students' grades.

6. The Grades tab

is where you can enter your students' grades for all your periods.

  • In each cell, click "Enter grades" to start entering grades for students in this class. Click on th colored table cell corresponding to a student's name to start entering or editing a grade for this student.
  • If you click the printer icon , the printable pdf will contain students' grades. You can print grades for all classes or just one class by clicking the printer icon in the row header.
